Motech Industries Inc. announces Appointment of Dr. Peng Heng Chang as Chief Executive Officer

Motech Industries Inc. today announced the appointment of Dr. Peng Heng Chang as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31, 2010. Current Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Simon Y.H. Tsuo, will relinquish his CEO position and focus on his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Yung-Hui Tseng, vice Chairman and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, will relinquish his current position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

AE Polysilicon Awarded $44.85M U.S. Tax Credit

Motech Industries Inc. today announced its subsidiary, AE Polysilicon Corporation, has been awarded a tax credit of US$44.85 million for Phase I under section 48C of the IRS Tax Code by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Motech to purchase GE Energy’s Delaware Solar Module Assembly Operation

Motech Industries Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire GE Energy’s Delaware solar module assembly operation. The plant, which is located in Newark, Delaware assembles crystalline silicon based photovoltaic modules. The plant currently employs 75 people.

TSMC and Motech Announce Strategic Partnership

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) and Motech Industries Inc. (TWO: 6244) today jointly announced the signing of a share subscription agreement, under which TSMC will subscribe through a private placement for 75.32 million new Motech shares. The total consideration is approximately NT$6.2 billion (US$193 million), or NT$82.7 per share, representing a 16.9% discount to Motech’s 3-month average closing price. TSMC will become the largest shareholder of Motech with 20% shareholding through this investment.

Motech Industries Inc. Reports Third Quarter 2009 Results

Motech Industries Inc. (TWO: 6244), one of the world’s leading producers of photovoltaic (PV) cells, today reported unconsolidated net revenues1 of NT$ 4,462 million for the third quarter of 2009 (3Q09), down 33% year-over-year and up 37% sequentially. Net income for the quarter was negative NT$ 201 million, up 14.67% from negative NT$234 million in 2Q09 and down 121.9% from NT$ 912 million in 3Q08 respectively. Earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter were negative NT$ 0.59(note 1) compared to negative NT$ 0.83(note 2) for 2Q09 and NT$ 3.67(note 1) for 3Q08.

Motech Selects Applied Baccini Esatto Technology for Double Printing of Solar Cells

Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that Motech Solar, one of the world's leading producers of crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar cells, has installed and qualified an Applied Baccini back-end line for double printing applications at its volume production facility in Tainan, Taiwan. Applied’s recently announced Esatto Technology™ on the Baccini® system will be used to manufacture Motech Solar's new c-Si solar cell design.

Motech Industries Inc., one of the world’s leading producers of photovoltaic (PV) cells, today reported consolidated net revenues1 of NT$ 3,259 million for the second quarter of 2009 (2Q09), down 46.58% year-over-year and 21.80% sequentially. Net income for the quarter was negative NT$ 234 million, down 588.43% from NT$ 48 million in 1Q09 and down 138.60% from NT$ 606 million in 2Q08 respectively. Earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter were negative NT$ 0.83, compared to NT$ 0.20 for 1Q09 and NT$ 2.44 for 2Q08.

Net income for the quarter was NT$ 51 million, down 81% year-over-year and 90% sequentially respectively. Earnings per share (EPS) for the quarter were NT$ 0.20(note 1), compared to NT$ 1.08(note 3) for 1Q08 and NT$ 2.04(note 2) for 4Q08.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals System) is European Parliament’s proposal envisions making industrial enterprises responsible for testing their chemical substances for possible hazards to consumers and the environment. The onus is on them to document that substances do not pose a hazard. In accordance with the “no data, no market” principle, substances will in the future only be permitted to be placed in circulation if sufficient data is available.

Following the passage of the Flagship Plan for the New Energy Industry on Thursday, April 23, 2009, Premier Liu Chao-Shiuan visited Motech Industries, Inc. (the “Company” or Motech) and exchanged views with Motech’s Chairman Dr. Simon Tsuo on industry fundamentals, current bottlenecks and government incentive plans. During the meeting with Premier Liu, Dr. Tsuo also provided suggestions to the government’s New Energy Industry Plan.
