New Application for SANYO's Smart Energy Systems

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. announces that it will provide a power system that combines solar panels and lithium-ion batteries as an option for a "40Ft container Vegetable Factory" already released by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Yoshimitsu Kobayashi, Representative Director, Member of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer). Completing Osaka Nishikinohama Factory to increase production of solar cells

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce the completion of the third factory building (Bldg. C) of Nishikinohama Factory (Kaizuka City, Osaka), already a mother factory for SANYO’s photovoltaic system business.

Bldg. C is expected to start high-volume production of HIT solar cells in December 2010 after installation of production equipment and completion of the necessary adjustments and tests for high-volume production.

The second quarter of FY2010 ended with consolidated net sales of 784 billion yen, a decrease of 22.1% over the same period last year.

Resource Saving and Half the Thickness of Previous Cells

SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce the realization of a 22.8% cell energy conversion efficiency, for a research-level HIT solar cell*1. This comes close to the world’s best conversion efficiency of 23.0% in a practical size (100 cm2 or more) announced in May 2009. SANYO’s solar cell improvement was realized using a cell thickness of 98μm, which is less than half*2 the previous thickness.
