Smith Electric Vehicles has been honoured for growing exports of its market-leading electric vans and trucks.

In the depths of the global economic downturn, Smith Electric grew exports from 2% of total sales in 2008 to 14.6% of company sales in 2009. The achievements of Sales and Marketing Director, Kevin Harkin, were recognised as he won the New Exporter category at the North East Exporter of the Year Awards 2010.

The President of the United States praised workers at global electric truck company Smith Electric Vehicles for helping to rebuild America's economy.

Barack Obama made a special trip to visit the headquarters of Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation (Smith US) in Kansas City, Missouri, where he met with the plant's workers and their families.

The President of the United States is paying a visit to global electric truck company Smith Electric Vehicles this week.

Barack Obama is making a special trip to visit the Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation (Smith US) facility in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday (JULY 8), where he will discuss the economy with the plant's 50 workers. Smith US is the only company the President is visiting that day.

Two Smith Edison Vans for Nottingham City Council

Nottingham City Council is greening its fleet with two new electric vehicles.

The council has ordered two Smith Edison all-electric panel vans, from Smith Electric Vehicles. Based on the Ford Transit chassis, Edison has a top speed of 50mph and a range of 80-100 miles on a full charge of its Lithium-Ion batteries.

First Electric Truck for Office of Public Works in Ireland

The Office of Public Works (OPW) in the Republic of Ireland has purchased its first electric vehicle.

The Smith Newton 7.5 tonne all-electric truck will be used by OPW Furniture Division for deliveries and transport of furniture in and around the Dublin area. Designed and built by Smith Electric Vehicles, the Newton is powered by a 120kW motor and an 80kWhr Lithium-Ion battery pack.

Western Power Distribution Chooses Smith Edison

Electricity company Western Power Distribution (WPD) is greening its fleet, after switching some of its service and maintenance vans to battery power.

The electricity distribution network operator has deployed electric vans in Plymouth and Cardiff. If trials of the first two vehicles are successful, WPD will look at introducing more battery-powered vans into its fleet.

John Brooks, WPD's Transport Manager said: "We take our environmental responsibility very seriously.

Ryder Supplies First Electric Truck on Contract Hire

Truck rental and contract hire specialist, Ryder, has delivered its first leased electric truck.

The 10 tonne Smith Newton truck is now in operation with Bunzl, the distribution and outsourcing group. It is deployed in Bunzl's catering and hospitality sector, working in the central London area.

Celtic Linen Goes Greener with Smith Newton

One of the oldest companies in the Republic of Ireland has invested in leading edge electric vehicle technology.

Celtic Linen Ltd has just taken delivery of a new Smith Newton 10 tonne fully electric truck.

The company's first electric vehicle is part of a fleet of 50 trucks, engaged in the delivery and collection of linen. It is based at Celtic Linen's Dublin distribution depot which supplies linen rental products to the industrial, hospitality and healthcare markets.
